Project Access to Literacy
Project Description: Project Access to Literacy Grant provided money to purchase the screen reading software, KeyStone ScreenSpeaker, that works in conjunction with speech recognition software so that students with reading and writing difficulties can independently generate written work. This grant funded the computer memory upgrades needed to effectively run the software. Six flatbed HP scanners were purchased to allow students to scan written material that is then read by the screen reading software
Proposed Outcomes: Project Access to Literacy allows students increased independence and improved quality in completing creative written work and independence in accessing reading material.
Target Population: Middle school and high school students who currently are receiving special education services because of deficits in reading and writing.
