Tax Credit
Taxpayers - Rescue your money from the state treasury!
Tax Credit Information
You can send all of your state taxes to Phoenix or give up to $400 to a public school and receive an income tax refund for the full amount you contribute.
RESPONSE CARD
You may already be a winner!
You may already have saved up to $400 from your tax bill if any time since January 1 you have
donated to extracurricular activities at your neighborhood public school.
Here's your chance!
A new Arizona tax law (ARS 43-1089.01) allows taxpayers a tax credit* of up to $400 if they
contribute to extracurricular activities in public schools. Extracurricular activities such as sports, band, speech and debate or field trips are generally not fully funded by school districts. These programs depend on fees from students.
You need not be a parent to win!
The tax credit is available to all taxpayers, regardless of whether they have children in school.
It's this easy!
If you want to support one or more of the programs listed on the response card, simply write a
check to the school or schools of your choice. Mail the check or deliver it to the school with your completed response card. The school staff will provide you with a receipt verifying that you have contributed to an eligible extracurricular activity. Next spring, simply claim your tax credit up to $400.
* Know the difference
Contributions to public schools have always been tax deductible. A tax deduction allows you
to subtract the amount of a contribution from the amount of your taxable income. The new law allows a tax credit, which is subtracted from the amount of taxes you owe. A tax credit is a full refund of your money.
A contribution gets the money where it needs to go: to the kids!
Contributions that are eligible for a tax credit ate donated directly to schools, not to the state and
not even to the school district. The funds are not subject to the revenue control limit that prevents schools from spending more than a fixed amount for programs. Increased funding will allow more children to participate in activities.
You have may choices.
To claim the tax credit., taxpayers must contribute to an activity or academic program for which
the school district requires a fee. you may contribute to one of the general categories listed below
or you may specify a program on the list you want to support.
