Information
- The Driver Education course consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of "behind the wheel" training. The 6 hours of "behind the wheel" training is not done during class hours and will be arranged with instructors at the end of the classroom training block. Once the student has completed the 36 hours they will be issued a Certificate of Completion. The certificate also entitles the holder to discounts with some insurance companies (Check with your individual company for discount).
- Students do not need an instruction permit for classroom time, but it is required for the driving instruction portion. Instructioin permits are available at the Department of Motor Vehicle - Drivers License Division. Please contact the Motor Vehicle Department at (928) 779-7562 for questions regarding Instructional Permits and Drivers License.
- MVD waives the behind the wheel portion of the driver's license test for students with certificats of copletion (although they reserve the right to administer tests to any applicant if the field station reprsentatives believe doing so would be in the interest of public safety). Please remember that students must have held an Instruction permit for 6 months before they can receive their license even if students are over the age of 16.
Where to Register
- Registration forms are available at ALL 3 High Schools or at the FUSD Admin Buidling, and ALL incoming registered FUSD Sophomores will have one sent directly to them.
- Registration forms will be accepted at ALL 3 High Schools with the Bookstore Managers. You may also register at the following location Monday-Friday from 7:30 am-4:30 pm (Closed from 1-2pm for lunch) with Terri Sanchez:

Registration Fee
- Payment of $280.00 is due at the time of registration. Students will NOT be able to attend class until all fees are paid in full. Community Education accepts cash, check/money order, Please make checks payable to Community Education, Visa, or MasterCard. There will be a fee of $1.50 if paying by VIsa or MasterCard.
- Checks returned by the bank will be charged a $25.00 handling fee.
- The Arizona State Income Tax Credit allows a tax credit for board aprpoved required fee, paid to a school, including Driver Education.
Class Changes
- If Community Education is notified 10 days before the start of a class you may have a ONE TIME ONLY class transfer. IF student has moved from one class to another, the option for a refund or to move again to another class is no longer available.
Refunds
- If Community Education is notified 10 days before the start of a class there will be a $50 charge (total refund of $230.00). There will be NO REFUNDS if Community Education is notified less than 10 days before the start of a class.
- A full refund will be made if Community Education cancels class, please allow 4-6 weeks for refund.
