-
The specific goals of the district's ELL Program are targeted in the areas of identification, assessment, participation in a designated program, staffing, exit criteria, program evaluations, parental notification, special opportunities programs, and special education.
- Identification will be accomplished through the use of a primary home language survey.
- Students in grades K-12 will be assessed for English Language proficiency using the AZELLA (Arizona English Language Learner Assessment).
- If, according to the results of the assessment, students are not proficient in one or more skill areas, they will be designated English Language Learners and will participate in one of the district's ELL Programs.
- Staff will receive training in second language acquisition and Structured English Immersion methodologies.
- English Language Learners will be reassessed every year. Parents will be notified if their children are identified as being limited in English.
- These students will have equal opportunities to participate in programs for the gifted and talented and will receive special education services if necessary.
For more information, please contact the ELL Specialist at any specific school and arrange for a visit. District personnel will gladly provide a full description of the educational opportunities available for students.
