Total chess students : 250

Club History
Five years ago two students played chess in a teacher’s office while waiting for a parent to take them home. At the state tournament in Flagstaff one of those students brought home Killip Chess Power's first stalemate. It was a meager beginning for what has become a driving force for student success in all areas of life.

Two years ago was our biggest travel year. Up to 30 students on our tournament team traveled almost 6,000 miles competing in 9 tournaments from Denver CO, to Louisville, KY. We placed teams anywhere from 1st to 24th within city, regional, state and national rankings.
Today
This year our tournament team is up to 60 students with a continual recruiting cycle at all levels of the club. We are happy to see our graduating students continue on the MEMS chess team and become leaders within their community. We attend one tournament a month, most of which are local or in Phoenix. We are foregoing the national tournaments this year due to budget limitations. If you are interested in helping please contact the school.
