Counseling

Two counselors work with our students on an as-needed basis. One is full time and coordinates special education needs, special friends, counseling and prevention programs. The second counselor is provided by the Native American office on a part time basis and coordinates tutoring and counseling services for Native American students, and services for their families.

Medical Help

A school nurse is available five days a week. Once a week, Coconino County Health Department provides a nurse practitioner who assists children with serious and/or chronic health needs. Families needing ACCCHS information/assistance will be helped by the nurse practitioner, too. Parents must follow up on the vision, dental, and medical health needs of their children.

Multi-Cultural Education

Killip School celebrates the contribution of all people in the development of our country. During the year, students and staff will pay special attention to Native American Day, Chinese New Year, Martin Luther King Day and Cinco de Mayo.  Families are asked to share their ethnic offering with us!

Reading Programs

All students are encouraged to read, read, read! We have several motivational programs which reward students who choose to participate: Book It! (from Pizza Hut), a book fair, Love of Reading Week, and Accelerated Reading. Parents are asked to support your child's reading efforts by sharing 15 minutes an evening of pleasurable reading time.

TALENTED AND GIFTED/ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
(TAG)
The goal of this program is to help children develop skills that will not only help them in their academic pursuits, but will also help them to better understand themselves and the contributions that they can make to their family, school and society.  During the course of the year, all students will be engaged in fun and challenging hands-on activities that will help them develop skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, reasoning, creative thinking, leadership, and personal communication skills. These activities are designed to enhance and enrich the regular classroom curriculum.  Contact Ms. Sawyer 773-4080.
