TAX CREDIT INFORMATION

bullet

You have a choice!

Instead of sending your tax dollars to Phoenix, use them directly to improve education in Flagstaff.

Arizona allows individual state income taxpayers to receive a TAX CREDIT
of up to $400* for contributions made to public schools
which support extracurricular activities.

*  Married couples may claim a combined total of $400 when filing jointly.  Single people may claim a total of $200. The credit can be claimed on personal income taxes only.  Contributions to schools from businesses are welcome and are deductible, but cannot be used to claim a tax credit.

bullet

You help the kids!  It costs you nothing!

The TAX CREDIT is available to all taxpayers whether or not they have children in the public schools or whether or not they live in the Flagstaff Unified School District.

Extracurricular activities such as sports, band, speech and debate or field trips generally cannot be fully funded by school district revenues and depend on fees from students.

Arizona tax law allows taxpayers a TAX CREDIT
of up to $400 for married couples filing jointly if they contribute to extracurricular activities in public schools supported by fees.

bullet

It's so easy!

To support any of the programs listed below, write a check to the school or schools of your choice. Send your check to the school or the district office with the Response Card, or deliver the check to your school directly. DO NOT write your check to a teacher, classroom, program, activity, or the school district.

After writing your check to the school of your choice, indicate on the memo line of your check what extracurricular activity you want to support.

You will be provided a receipt verifying that you have contributed to an elibible activity. Next spring, simply claim your tax credit of up to $400 for married couples filing jointly on your state income tax return. For more information log on to:

http://www.azdor.gov/ResearchStats/Schooltaxcredit.htm

Donations to public schools have always been tax deductible.  A tax deduction allows you to subtract the amount of a contribution from the amount of your taxable income.  If you work in the state of Arizona and pay state taxes, the tax credit will save you dollar for dollar up to $400 for married couples filing jointly or up to $200 for individuals. A tax credit is subtracted from the amount of taxes you owe.

bulletA contribution gets the money to the kids!

Contributions that are eligible for TAX CREDIT are donated directly to schools, not to the state and not even to the District.

Tax credit contributions can not be used for budget deficit reduction or anything other than the extracurricular program you direct your money to.* Your tax credit contribution will allow more FUSD students to participate in extracurricular activities.

*An Arizona Law states that trips or events that are "recreational, amusement or tourist activities" do not qualify for the Extracurricular Tax Credit!

bulletHere's how to claim your TAX CREDIT!
