The Student Council, aka StuCo, is made up of students from each classroom in grade 3 through 6. The Council's Faculty Advisor is Ms. Jan Luxton, and she is assisted by two wonderful parent volunteers; Jenny Garcia and Jenny Baker.
The students at Thomas elect two representatives from each classroom (grades 3-6), and then those representatives hold elections for Student Council Officers from among their ranks. The officers include the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
The student council meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month, and discusses any item put forward by the classroom representatives to the Council.
Each classroom that is Kindergarten to second grade has a Student Council "Buddy" who keeps the younger classes informed about school events and activities.
So far this year the Student Council has organized and sponsored a number of events including gathering gifts and goodies for the U.S. Armed Forces in Iraq; a Bike Raffle, a Cake Walk, and a Beach Day. most of the money raised at these events was donated to UNICEF and the Tsunami Victims Relief Fund. The remainder of the money is used for projects to improve our school campus.
The next big StuCo projects are:
- Our annual Easter time food drive that collects food for the needy of our local Flagstaff community; all gifts are donated to the Care and Share Food Bank.
- "Jumprope for Heart" that benefits the American Heart Association.
