Flagstaff Unified School District has been at the forefront of mobile learning since the initial launch of iPads in the Spring of 2010.
After starting with administrators and a single 5th-grade "mini grant" pilot project, we moved on to a dozen more K-12 pilot projects before using taxpayer-approved dollars to launch the iREAD Initiative. iREAD, in turn, has garnered international attention at conferences and recognition from Apple for "innovation, leadership, and educational excellence."
During the 2013-14 school year, we continued to grow our mobile learning initiative, again using taxpayer-approved funds to deploy iPad carts at elementary grade levels and select core-subject departments at the middle-school and high-school level. In 2014-15, we included more secondary departments so that every core-subject team now has two iPad carts of 30 to 35 devices available for student-centered instructional use. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Apple Distinguished Program
Apple Distinguished Programs are K-20 academic implementations within one school, across a district, or in a higher-education academic program that provides one-to-one access to Apple notebook computers and/or mobile devices to all students, faculty, and administrators. They demonstrate an innovative and compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic accomplishment.
