Ms. Erin Wilkinson
My name is Erin Wilkinson and I am a school counselor at Sinagua Middle School. I have been a school counselor since 2007 with my first job being a high school counselor and peer mentor instructor at Sinagua High School. After two years of teaching and counseling, I decided to go learn more about the world, travelling to Portland to volunteer at Outside In, a homeless youth shelter. In addition, I travelled to Uganda to help, briefly, at an orphanage and expand my understanding of the world beyond the United States.
After a year of travel, I returned to Flagstaff. From 2010-2012, I worked as a school counselor at Flagstaff High School. In 2012, district budget cuts required me to move locations, at which time, I became a school counselor at Northland Preparatory Academy. In 2016, I once again felt a pull to explore more of the world and relocated to Bend, Oregon. Here I continued my career as a high school counselor at Mountain View High School. And while Bend was a beautiful opportunity to change things up, Flagstaff, and the community here, had a boomerang effect on me, once again. The following year I returned to Flagstaff and worked as an adjunct faculty at Northern Arizona University. However, my pull to middle and high school students has ultimately pulled me back to the Flagstaff Unified School District and I am back where I started, at Sinagua.
I am passionate about helping students connect their learning with their lives beyond the classroom. During the summer, I work as an Expedition Leader with Grand Canyon Youth and No Barriers Youth. Getting kids to connect with their environment, selves and others in an authentic way. Removing distractions (screens) students blossom and connect in ways that are rarely experienced off the river. It is my goal to encourage them to connect with self and others, finding their place in our community (inside and outside of school).
