I am really excited and a little bit nervous to start this school year. I am excited because I have missed learning and exploring with 2nd graders. I am nervous because I am still learning the technology that will be our classroom. We are going to start slowly and learn how to work efficiently and effectively in our new environment so that we (the second graders and myself) can do school almost independently. Also, I don't want my class spending their whole day looking at a screen, so there will be lots of independent activities away from the iPads.
My goals for tomorrow are 1) to get everyone onto zoom and Canvas, 2) to learn how to Meet-up each morning, 3) to start to get to know our new friends, 4) to explore our supply bag and 5) to have fun!
Tomorrow morning please help your child login to Canvas. From your child's dashboard, you will click on Ms. Thompson's 2nd grade. Read the letter on the homepage with your child. It asks you to click on the Monday tab and from there click on zoom. I will be waiting for you at 8:40.
Here's some more info you may need:
iPad login: student's birthday without slashes and only the last 2-digits of the year (######)
Canvas login: studentIDfirstname.lastname@example.org (Student IDs are 8-digit #s starting with 600#####. You can find it on ParentVue if your child cannot remember it.)
Canvas password: student's birthday with slashes and entire year (##/##/####)
You might try to login tonight, as our classes go live after 5 p.m. I'm sure there will be bumps to iron out. We (teacher, students and parents) will all need to practice patience and to ask for help when we are frustrated.
I'll see you all tomorrow!
If you have any questions I haven't answered, feel free to email me or text me before 7 p.m. tonight. I will also answer questions as folks get logged in tomorrow morning and again for a few minutes after our closing meeting tomorrow.
