Degrees and Certifications:
B.A. in Elementary Education M.A. in Special Education Gifted Endorsement
Hello! My name is Taryn Wallace, and I will be starting my fifth year of teaching at DeMiguel. I have taught both first and second grade. I am so lucky to be able to work in such a wonderful community that makes me love my job every single day. I am a Flagstaff native and I absolutely love this town. For my undergraduate degree, I attended Boise State University in Idaho. I decided to go to BSU because I was recruited to run on their cross-country and track and field teams! I ran distance all four years, while completing my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. After I graduated, I had a year left of running eligibility, and I missed Flagstaff so much, so I decided to take it to Northern Arizona University! This allowed me to compete on home turf while taking classes for my Master's Degree. I graduated in 2015 with a Master's of Special Education degree, and an even bigger heart for education! This past summer, I completed courses to give me a Gifted Endorsement. I am eager to use my new knowledge in the classroom this year.
Last October I married my best friend, Ryan. We just purchased our first house together and I am getting used to the "wife" lifestyle! I am very close with my family. My mother, Jackie Treadway, has been a first grade teacher in the Flagstaff Unified School District for the past 33 years, and my father is currently the police chief of Flagstaff. When I married Ryan, I went from being an only child to having three new brothers and two new sisters. My extended family lives and works throughout Flagstaff and Prescott! My husband Ryan works as a nurse in the Flagstaff Medical Center Emergency Department. He is also currently working on his Master's Degree at NAU. The students will have the opportunity to hang out with "Mr. Ryan" throughout the year as he visits for special occasions. I am a doggy mom to a beautiful German Shepherd named Zeke. We also have a mischievous cat named Remi.
I LOVE to travel and explore new places in this world! I have had the opportunity to visit Japan, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands, and many states in America including Alaska and Hawaii. Our theme in second grade this year, following the new science and social studies Arizona State Standards is Around the World. I'm anxious to share from the places I have visited as well as hear and learn from the experiences of my students. The students and their families will learn quickly that I have a love for Disney and I treasure the simplicities of childhood innocence at this age level. I love hiking, trail running, camping, cooking, and family time. I look forward to working with another bunch of great students and I am ecstatic to continue with a career I have such a passion for. We are going to have a magical year together! Please feel FREE to contact me at anytime through email or phone. I typically check emails every morning and afternoon. I have a total open door policy and all are welcome at anytime.
