    Dear Families,

Hello! My name is Mrs. Joe. I am looking forward to a great calendar school year with excitement and enthusiasm.  I hope for high expectations for this year’s 3rd graders to progress in every area of their learning.  Parents, families and I will work closely to achieve your child’s learning potential to be successful.  I hold you in high regards for supporting your child at Marshall.  Arizona Department of Education has Common Core standards for Language Arts and Math. They have also updated standards for Social Studies and Science. This means that there will be more information to cover daily.  I want to give my students an academically challenging, fun learning environment and students will become tech savy with the ipads as a learning tool.  Apps are to help with research and using presentation tools.  Students will be assigned to read daily, every night and working on Eurkea Math.  Third grade students will start learning multiplication and cursive the first week of school.  My whole philosophy is teaching the student to be a productive sefl-learner, learning how to learn on their own learning continuum.  I have a great reading incentive program that will help them become readers beyond their reading level.  Thank you for all that you will do in supporting your child this school year!!

    Love,

    Mrs. Joe

Our English Language Arts (ELA) reading Program was collaborated by our 3rd Grade Team. Reach for Reading is our new Languare Curriculum adopted by the district.  It uses the Standards, organized into four overlapping strands: Reading, Writing, Language and Speaking/Listening.  I will incorporate non-fiction literacy using TCI Social Studies curriculum, Engineering is Elementary (EIE) and Foss Science-Force and Motion.  Our math program is Eureka Math connects math to the real world in ways that take the fear out of math and build student confidence. Our science programs are FOSS kits, EIE, STC science and GEMS.  Including my own science research in participating in Research in Optics for K-12 Educators and teachers at the University of Arizona. Included with learning about DNA as I have had the pleasure to learn from TGen labs. These programs are all hands on and will be taught with project based learning concepts.  This year my emphasis is integrating more daily reading using Comprehensions, Accuracy, Fluency & Expanding daily vocabulary in using ideas called the CAFÉ, Daily 5, Grammar and Raz-Kids. Sanford Harmony-a social-emotional teaching program that cultivates strong classroom relationships between all students.

Research shows that parental involvement in a child's education is directly related to success in the classroom.  Your child will be reading a book at his level to be logged into his reading log and AR test will be scheduled with teacher weekly.  You must know what level your child is in order to make sure your child reading at his potential.  When your child is finished reading they need to take an AR test here at Marshall weekly
