    Sneak Peek at the Week-05/28/2017

    It is hard to believe that this school year is over. It has been wonderful watching all the progress your children have made during their 3rd grade year. A huge thanks to you parents/guardians for providing me with a great group of students. How fun it has been. Thanks as well for all your donations to the class and your time to attend field trips and work with the students in class. I hope that you all have a fun-filled and relaxing summer break! I look forward to seeing these 4th graders walking the halls in August!

     

    Tuesday May 30th- Talent Show, 10:00
    Thursday June 1st- Last Day of School/ Early Release Day at 12:25
    * This Thursday we will be playing games in the classroom as a celebration of a great year. If your child would like to bring in a board game to share that would be great!

    Sneak Peek at the Week-05/22/2017

     

    Math- This week the students will working in Module 7, the final module. The students will solving problems involving perimeter.

    Social Studies- The class will finish up writing and typing their Flagstaff History brochures.

     
    Flagstaff History Presentations- The students will be presenting their Flagstaff brochures in the morning of Friday May 26th, in the classroom. The showcase will begin at 10:15 and end at 11:15. Come when you can. I hope to see many of you there!

    Sneak Peek at the Week-05/15/2017

     

    Math- This week the students will working in Module 7, the final module. The students will solving problems involving perimeter.

    Science- This week the students will continue their study of rocks and minerals.

    Social Studies- The class will begin learning Flagstaff History. The students will begin to gather information and write about the Flagstaff landmark they have chosen.

    Downtown Flagstaff Field Trip- The class will be headed to downtown Flagstaff for geology and Flagstaff history tours. The field trip is tomorrow, Tuesday May 16th. At the conclusion of the field trip, the class will enjoy a lunch from Bigfoot BBQ. Please have your child wear comfortable walking shoes and sunscreen. Also, have your child bring a backpack, water bottle and dress in layers (a raincoat might not be a bad idea).
     
     
    ****Those parents who have volunteered to attend the field trip tomorrow, Tuesday the 16th, we only have one bus taking 2 third grade classrooms downtown. So, you will need to transport yourself to the field trip. Please meet us at Wheeler Park at 9:00. Thank you for your understanding.

    Math- This week the students will continue to work in Module 6- Collecting and Displaying Data. The students will be organizing data in to various types of graphs and line plots.

    Science- This week the students will be learning about fossils.  

    Social Studies- The class will begin learning Flagstaff History and choose a landmark to write a brochure on.

    Social Studies- The students will be learning about famous Americans and their contributions. 

     
    Riordan Mansion- The class will be heading to Riordan Mansion on Thursday April 27th. This field trip will take place in the morning and we will be back at school for lunch. Entrance fees for the students have been paid for all of the students. Additionally, two parents have volunteered to go on the field trip.
     
    Parents attending the Riordan Mansion field trip, you will need to meet the class at the Riordan Mansion at 9:15. There is not enough room on the bus. Thank you for volunteering and your cooperation.
     
    Downtown Flagstaff Field Trip- The class will be headed to downtown Flagstaff for geology and Flagstaff history tours. The field trip is Tuesday May 16th. At the conclusion of the field trip, the class will enjoy a lunch from Bigfoot BBQ. The cost of the field trip and Bigfoot BBQ lunch is $9 ($4 for the tour guides and $5 for lunch). Those students who paid the class fee will only need to pay for the lunch, which is $5.     Jog-a-Thon- This Friday is the Color Jog-a-Thon. 3rd grade will participate in the run from 10:00-10:45. Volunteers are needed during this time. So, if you can volunteer let me know.
     
    Also, their will be a school BBQ that day. Parents are encouraged to attend lunch with their child/ren. The cafeteria will be serving hamburgers and pulled pork. There is a $4 charge for the lunch.
     
    Family Satisfaction Form- Please complete this survey, which is on the school website in English and Spanish, by the end of this month. A paper copy can be picked up at the office.
     
    Talent Show- Students who are interested in auditioning for the annual Talent Show need to have in their interest forms by this Wednesday April 26th. Audition will follow shortly after.

    AzMERIT Testing- The students will participate in the state standardized test, AzMERIT, this week. The students will take the Writing portion of the test on Tuesday April 18th and the Reading and Mathematics portions of the test on Wednesday April 19th and Thursday April 20th. Please help your child prepare for the test by having them get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy breakfast. If you would like, there are sample tests your child can take at  http://azmeritportal.org/

     
    I am asking if some parents could donate snack for the AzMERIT Testing, this week. The students will receive a break between tests. A healthy snack to refuel them helps them maintain their stamina during long testing days. Some ideas of healthy snacks that can be donated are: yogurt cups (please provide spoons), fruit bars, clementine oranges, cheese and  pepperoni sticks to name a few. Please let me know if you can donate.
     
    **Thank you to those parents who have offered to bring in a snack for the class! Your support is appreciated! Please send in your snack tomorrow. 
     
    Homework-  This week, there will be NO HOMEWORK, as the students will be participating in the AzMERIT Test.

    Sneak Peek at the Week-04/10/2017

     

    English Language Arts-This week begins our month long Geology unit. First, the students will be reading about the Layers of the Earth. As they read, the students will focus on the main idea of the passage and answering informational text comprehension questions using evidence from the text.

     Math- This week the class will take a break from fractions to do a mini Geometry unit.  The students will be classifying and studying the attributes of various polygons.

    Link-Up Concert- The Link-Up concert has been rescheduled for Monday April 17th. Chaperones are not needed for this field trip.

    Knoles Fundraiser- Tomorrow from 5-8, Knoles will be hosting a school fundraiser at Chick-Fil-A. A portion of the proceeds will go to Knoles School.

    Academic Night- Academic Night is Thursday April 13th from 5:30-6:30. During this evening, parents can meet grade level teams and learn about the curriculum taught at each grade level. Also, teachers from each grade level, will be reading excerpts from some of the books read in that grade level.

    There will be a book exchange on Academic Night, as well. Families are encouraged to exchange old, previously read books for another unread book. So, start searching your shelves now!

     Math- The class will continue to work on Module 5, Fractions as Numbers on the Number Line. We are currently working in Topic D: Fractions on the Number Line.

    Link-Up Concert- The Link-Up concert has been rescheduled for Monday April 17th. Chaperones are not needed for this field trip.

    STEP Club Parent Day- This Friday March 31st is STEP Club Parent Day. Parents are invited to attend their child's STEP Club from 10:00-10:50. Parents are encouraged to stay after STEP Clubs for lunch. A taco/nacho lunch is being prepared for lunch.
