    …a little about Mr. Friend:


          Mr. Friend grew up in Park Ridge, IL, a suburb of Chicago.  He graduated from Maine South High School in 1969 and then attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri graduating in 1973 with a B.S. degree in Business and Public Administration.

          Upon graduation he then spent the following year traveling throughout North America by various means eventually ending up in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  There he spent the next 16 years working as a ski instructor in the winter and a carpenter the other months.  While living in Jackson, he and his wife Christine traveled extensively by bicycle throughout Europe, Scandinavia, United Kingdom, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. 

          He and Christine returned to school at the University of Wyoming where Mr. Friend obtained another degree in Business Education and Christine completed two years towards her degree in Elementary Education.

          From 1990 to 1992 they lived in Holbrook, AZ where Mr. Friend taught business subjects and was an assistant varsity baseball and football coach at Holbrook High School.

          They moved at the start of the 1992-1993 school year to Flagstaff where they presently live. In May of 1994 he earned his Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University.  He is beginning his 26th year at Coconino and is the School-to-Work Coordinator and will also be teaching the classes School-to-Work and Computer Technology.  Interests include cycling, kayaking, guitar & piano, camping and hiking with his wife Christine who is an elementary teacher at Montessori.

          They have two daughters, Mercedes 27, a graduate of  NAU and currently in the Physical Therapy Graduate program  at the University of Puget Sound , and Madeline 25, also a graduate of NAU, who is currently working for O.A.R.S. as a river guide in Idaho and during the school year studying for her Master's Degree in Watershed Science at Utah State University.
