Hudson and I hiking in the Inner Basin of the San Francisco Peaks

I was born and raised in New York by two New Yorker parents that loved NYC. As an adult, I lived in several other states before coming to Flagstaff in 1994. I love the clean air and enjoy walking in the nearby forest trails with our family's dogs every day (Hudson and Winston are golden retrievers) . This is a wonderful place to live; I raised two daughters in this small city. After many years of living and working elsewhere in the country and abroad, my daughters have returned home to Flagstaff to work and live. Anne's daughter, Ella is now 22 months old. The family is  in love with her. Despite the short growing season, I spend most of my summer days caring for my gardens, which is a rewarding and relaxing pastime for me. I also play piano, read novels, and have returned to knitting, although I am still very much at the basic skills level.

This will be my twenty-sixth year teaching for FUSD and my 19th year teaching  at Knoles Elementary. I earned my B.A. in Elementary Education from American University in Washington, D.C., my M.A. in Special Education from Arizona State University, and completed the graduate program in School Psychology at N.A.U. During my teaching career of forty-six years, I have always been excited to teach and am stimulated by learning new things. I have been a self-contained and resource special education teacher and a regular classroom teacher for many different grades from pre-school through high school.

Like all FUSD teachers, I adhere to the common core standards and the Arizona state standards for second grade in all subjects. I am always working on planning fun and engaging lessons for my students that will keep them excited and interested in learning new skills and concepts. These lessons include using lots of manipulatives, projects, learning movement poems, songs, engaging in STEM activities that incorporate science, technology, art, and math. the  If you check my suggested supplies list, then purchase supplies  and back-up supplies beforehand, you will save money on supplies.

I am looking forward to being your child’s teacher this year and having a fruitful year together.

    Warm regards,

    Susan Davidson
