Mr. Colvard

Mr. Randy Colvard received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Redlands in 1989 and his Master of Music degree in Conducting from Northern Arizona University in 1992.  From 1992 – 1999, Mr. Colvard was the Director of Bands at Coconino High School.  During those years he demonstrated his musical leadership by producing a series of award-winning high school marching, concert, and Jazz bands.  In 1999, Mr. Colvard joined the faculty at Flagstaff Middle School where he taught Beginning Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Choir, and General Music.  After eleven years at Flagstaff Middle School and one at Mount Elden Middle School, Mr. Colvard joined the faculty at Sinagua Middle School. For seven years he has been team teaching, along with Mrs. Colvard, Beginning Orchestra and Beginning Band.  In addition, he teaches Beginning Choir, Advanced Choir, and the Symphonic Band.  Their ensembles continue to receive the highest ratings at concert festivals.  Furthermore, the Sinagua Middle School Symphonic Band was the only band in the state of Arizona that was invited to perform at the 75th anniversary of the Arizona Music Educators Associations state convention in 2014.

 Locally Mr. Colvard has been the musical director for Theatrikos’ production of “Godspell” and “Nunsense”, Flagstaff Light Opera Company's productions of “Oliver”, “King & I”, "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”, "Nuncrackers", “Wizard of Oz”, “The Secret Garden”, and “Annie”.   Furthermore, he established, and was the founding director of the Flagstaff Community Band in 1992 and conducted that ensemble for twelve years.  Also, throughout the 1990’s,  Mr. Colvard enjoyed performing in his brass quintet "Just Brass", as well as other ensembles.  Mr. Colvard was the Northwest Arizona Region Middle School Band and Choir chairman from 2000 to 2004 and the Regional Governor for the Northwest Arizona Middle School Region from 2004 through 2008.  From 2000 through 2003 he was a member of the faculty at Northern Arizona University’s Summer Music Camp.  For the past 16 years, Mr. Colvard has directed his church choirs and is currently the choir director at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Flagstaff.  Mr. and Mrs. Colvard have two beautiful children.  Their daughter, Bryce, who is a junior and principal bassoonist at California Lutheran University and their son, Bryan, who is the principal trombonist and section leader at Coconino High School.

Ms. Carrie Colvard earned her Bachelor of Music Education and Masters of Education Technology degrees from Northern Arizona University in 1992 and 2003, respectively.  From 1993-1999, Ms. Colvard taught Beginning Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band and General Music at Flagstaff Middle School. Her groups were active in Northern Arizona Middle School music festivals and regional events, earning consistently high ratings. In 1999, Ms. Colvard joined the faculty at Mount Elden Middle School where she continued to direct all of the bands and eventually added Orchestra in 2005. After eleven years at Mount Elden Middle School, Ms. Colvard moved to Sinagua Middle School where she has taught for eight years and is looking forward to many more. Currently, she team teaches, along with her husband Randy Colvard, Beginning Band and Beginning Orchestra. Additionally, Ms. Colvard teaches Concert Band, Advanced Orchestra and Beginning Guitar. Sinagua Middle School ensembles continue to receive the highest ratings at concert festivals and have many participants in the Northwest Arizona Regional Honor Bands and Orchestras, which are Arizona’s only auditioned middle school regional event.  Ms. Colvard is an active trumpet player in Northern Arizona. She plays in the Flagstaff Symphony as well as for many other theater, community and church events. Ms. Colvard has had an active private studio for trumpet instruction throughout her entire teaching career.  Ms. Colvard has held numerous leadership positions in the Northwest Arizona Region Middle School Band, Choir and Orchestra organization including Band Chair, Solo and Ensemble Chair, Region Audition Chair and Secretary/Treasurer. Additionally, she has hosted numerous Large Group and Regional Music Festivals at various middle and high school locations in Flagstaff.
