Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Jen Federio-Carolus

Dearest Students and Families,

It has been my greatest privilege to be your teacher for your 4th and 5th grade adventures at DeMiguel.  Although our last quarter together was set to be filled with an abundance of creativity and self-expression in school, the current events around the world are keeping us from being able to be together in our classroom.  I want to give you all the opportunity, however, to keep your creative spark and foster an environment from at home of self-expression, empowerment, and self-awareness as I help to guide you in to your middle school years.  Our educational structure looks completely different at this moment, but I would like to remind us all to take this unavoidable opportunity to tend to our own selves, our own emotions, and to take this time to rediscover our true powers and discover, for the first time, hidden abilities, talents, and powers we never knew lived within us.

As your ELA teacher this year, I will continue to provide ample opportunities for strengthening your comprehension skills, language and sentence structuring abilities, and written creative language.  Each week, you will have choice assignments with which you can choose to complete on your GoogleDocs account.  You may submit these assignments either in Google or via email.  I will assess your work and provide feedback, just as I would be doing within the classroom setting. In addition to ELA-related tasks, I will still continue to provide opportunities for mindfulness education, self- awareness practices, and self-reflection projects.  These will continue to unfold and become available to you as this quarter progresses.

If you ever have any questions for me regarding curriculum, thoughts about life, and/or issues or problematic situations you need help with, please know that I am always here for you, just as I have been for two years.  I will be working from home, and my office hours for contact will be set at 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. daily.  Please understand that living off-grid is posing to be a problem with internet at times, so if I do not respond immediately, know that I will within that day.  Methods of contacting me are currently limited to email.  If you have an emergency and need to speak with me in length, we may communicate over the phone.  My phone number has already been emailed to all families.  Please use email for questions regarding curriculum, clarification, etc.  I welcome texts regarding funny stories, family photos, uplifting messages, and emergency situations.

I wish you all health, happiness, strength and personal growth.  Perspective is key during these times- something which I am working on strengthening each morning when I get out of bed.  Please know I am with you... I am always with you... and I will always be with you.

I love you all with every ounce of my heart and soul.  I can't wait to get together and celebrate as a class when this is all over!!!!!
