Hi Fifth Grade Families!
I'm looking forward to a terrific year with Killip's 2019 graduating fifth graders! We've got a lot of fun and engaging learning experiences planned for students this year. Over the summer, our grade level team spent a lot of time preparing for the launch of our near English/Language Arts curriculum. It's an engaging new program with lots of high interest texts that should challenge kids to think critically about the world and support their growth in reading comprehension and fluency.
We'll be continuing our work with Everyday Math. Most students should be familiar with this program and accustomed to its rigor. While the math is challenging, it's geared towards supporting students' acquisition of critical thinking skills and deep understanding of mathematical concepts. I look forward to helping all our fifth graders feel like competent math students! As my seventh grade math teacher used to exclaim, "Math is fun" (sometimes, at least)!
Of course there are many other fun and exciting things planned for this school year - I'm really looking forward to working with your kids as they embark upon this final year of elementary school! Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions or concerns... or if you just want to say, "hi".
Thanks for all you do for your kids!
