Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Neil Ross

This is my first school year teaching 4th and 5th grade at PDH, but I was in the same classroom almost 10 years ago student teaching with 3rd graders. Many things are the same, but it's great to see everything that's new.

Between the early 1990's and 2005, when I settled in Flagstaff for good, I moved around between my native New Jersey, Honduras, Mexico, and Arizona. I earned my first master's degree at ASU, studying Mesoamerican Archaeology. I began substitute teaching while I was writing my master's thesis about obsidian tools in the Naco Valley, Honduras, then spent a few months doing archaeology on the Zuni reservation, then moved back to New Jersey to be closer to family. There I taught middle social studies for a few years and begin running mountain biking programs for pre-teens and teens, which I've continued to do ever since. I never forgot how much I liked Flagstaff and took advantage of the opportunity to move here in 2005. I finished my second master's, in Elementary Education, in 2012, and have been teaching at the elementary and middle school level ever since. This new 4th/5th grade position is exciting because it will involve many of the strengths I've developed over the years but will also let me to learn new things.

Aside from teaching social studies and other subjects, I enjoy mountain biking (riding and coaching), fossil hunting, dogs, and activities with my sons (13 and 14).
