Welcome to what I am certain will a terrific and fabulous first grade experience.  I am so thankful to be your child's teacher this year.  Thank you for sharing your MOST precious gift in this world with me.  I know that a strong parent-teacher relationship is very important to your child's success, so let's work together and keep the communication open.  I will be teaching 80% in Navajo and 20% in English.
    First Grade Resources:
General Information About Class: There are 12 boys and 12 girls.  This is the first time I've had an even number of boys and girls.  As far as I know there are no food allergies in this class so you can send in any kind of healthy snacks.
News/Homework:  There will be a monthly list of upcoming activities your child will bring home.  Check their colored folder for any other information that may be coming from the school.  Some of these may need a signature and returned to the office.
In first grade we are not sending weekly homework. The letter in the folder explains as to the reason for this decision.  There is a 3-ring binder and the folder that has a lot of information that you can use to help your child learn various skills in different subject areas. Work with your child from the binder for at least 20 minutes per night. Use these references as ideas as well as your own creative ways to make their learning fun and engaging. Do not forget to also have them read for at least 10-20 minutes each night for reading improvement and complete the READING LOG.  Remember you are the #1 teacher in your child's life and your can make all the difference in developing a positive attitude toward school and take responsibility for their learning.
Specials Schedule:  Starting in the new year our schedule has changed from Tuesday morning to afternoon from 12:30-2:10.  They are in  Art, Music, and PE. 30 minutes. Please remember to have them wear the right kind of shoes for PE.  Fit Kids is on Thursday from 1:30-2:00 and in this class there is a lot of moving, running activities involved so remember again to wear the right kind of shoes.
