Welcome to Mrs. Quigley's homepage!  I teach Language Arts to students in Alpine Leadership Academy, 6th grade.  This year is filled with many opportunities for your student to be a part of a community of learners.  We have many activities planned.  Camp Colton leads us off and is a great way for the students to get to know each other!  We have two expeditions scheduled for the fall.  You will find us learning about Indigenous Peoples of the Americas at Walnut Canyon.  We will be sharing our knowledge with 4th graders from Knoles.  You will also see us learning about geology in fabulous downtown Flagstaff.  Just look for the pink Alpine t-shirts!  We will be exploring the impact plastic bags have on our environment and learning how to make reusable bags out of old t-shirts!  Spring holds all new adventures including working with the National Park Service, Picture Canyon and a river trip!  I am looking forward to a great year!

We have plenty of learning to do in the classroom!  We will read two novels this year, Touching Spirit Bear and The Giver.  Both of these books are engaging and support the 6th grade language arts curriculum.  Ask your student about the book they are reading in class.  Ask them to tell you what the story is about.  Retell is a great reading strategy!  We will be writing letters in both formal and friendly format.  We will work extra hard on grammar this year.  Spelling, sentence structure and paragraph writing is on the top of the list!  We are learning in Room 311 if you would like to stop by.  Just check in with the office and Becky will direct you to our classroom!
