What are the skills and dispositions that students need when they pass beyond the graduation stage and to the next stage in life? These are the questions that the Flagstaff Unified School District Growth and Inspiration Council worked through on Friday, January 25 at the FUSD Family Resource Center. Team leaders, administrators, community partners, and students joined the conversation to narrow down the skills learners will need to adapt to a society embracing the fourth industrial revolution of technology and core competencies.
Narrowing down these key competencies meant having collaborative conversations - distilling large topics down to key words and phrases that will serve as the basis of the upcoming profile of a graduate. The work was a next step following a prior meeting where the group articulated community needs and desires for student outcomes. A third meeting of the group will be held later this spring to finalize language around the profile and methods for community outreach.
To close the meeting, Growth and Inspiration was also provided an update on the bond passed last November for technology. Information Technology Director Mary Knight updated the group and shared the work taking place to ensure that current practices are not just digitized with additional resources, but that technology enhances learning outcomes with rigorous and valuable learning experience.
