FUSD appoints three administrators

The Flagstaff Unified School District approved the contracts for three administrators in the upcoming 2019-2020 school year.  Patrick Fleming was hired as the Director of Transportation and Lawrence Watson will now serve as the Assistant Principal for Flagstaff High School.  Tari Popham will continue to serve as the Sinagua Middle School principal after participating in SmartSchools, a phased retirement program, during the 2018-2019 school year.

Mrs. Tari Popham is focused on continuing to build leaders within the school and moving Sinagua to greater heights through teamwork.  Sinagua is currently working to implement the International Baccalaureate program focused on encouraging personal and academic achievement through student connections between coursework and real world experiences.

“It is an absolute honor to continue to serve the students and families at Sinagua Middle School,” states Principal Popham.  “We have plans to continue to positively grow the school with the International Baccalaureate candidacy and other programming.”

Mr. Patrick Fleming has served FUSD for the past 14 years with progressing responsibilities that have included the roles of driver, trainer, dispatcher, and safety and training coordinator.  Most recently, Fleming has served as the interim co-director this past spring and is credentialed as a Transfinder Routefinder Pro, DAITIA Reasonable Suspicion Supervisor, Arizona Class A/B UST Operator, Physical Performance Instructure, Classroom and BTW Instructor through the Arizona Department of Public Safety while still holding an Arizona CDL Class B with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements.

“I am incredibly excited about this opportunity,” shares Fleming.  “We have a great team and I appreciate the opportunity to provide high quality customer service to our families and support to our team.”

Mr. Lawrence Watson will continue the work in creating Flagstaff High School as a school of choice by promoting a safe and healthy environment where students from diverse backgrounds feel comfortable and can achieve exceptional results in a supportive environment.  Watson is looking forward to evaluating student and family interests and needs to develop programs that will attract students and families to FHS. He is also looking forward to expanding career readiness programs that have clear educational outcomes and goals that align to the values of our community.

“Flagstaff High School has taught me so much and I am proud to serve the parents, students, and teachers who have given me so much,” says Watson.

Lawrence has a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education Math from Northern Arizona University and a Masters in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University.  Lawrence has also served as the Vice President of the Northern Arizona Regional Mathematics Leadership team, site sponsor and summer instructor for the NAU Upward Bound program, GSA Club sponsor and as a SOARR Committee member.
