Alternate Routes for MEMS and PDH Due to Construction

August 8, 2023

Beginning Thursday, August 10, 2023, there will be construction on Fourth Street and Lockett Road for a duration of approximately four weeks. During this time, student pick-up and drop-off at Mount Elden Middle School (MEMS) and Puente de Hózhó (PDH) Elementary School will be impacted.

During construction, northbound travel will not be allowed on Fourth Street beyond the Fourth Street/Cedar Avenue/Lockett Road intersection. Parents and/or guardians traveling from the west will need to take the alternate route via East Linda Vista Drive or North West Street to East Linda Vista Drive, then turn right onto Fourth Street in order to drop their child(ren) off at MEMS or Puente de Hózhó. Parents and/or guardians traveling from the east will need to take the alternate route from North Patterson Boulevard, then left onto East Linda Vista Drive, and left onto Fourth Street in order to drop their child(ren) off at MEMS or Puente de Hózhó.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes from PDH and MEMS will be available for all local traffic exiting the school sites, however, parents and/or guardians are advised to refrain from traveling northbound on Fourth Street after exiting the school sites in order to limit congestion at the four-way stop at Fourth Street and East Linda Vista Drive. There are no known impacts for eastbound and westbound travel on Cedar Avenue and Lockett Road.

Please see below for a map of the alternate driving routes due to the construction.

Map

The green denotes the alternate route for traffic coming in from the west of Fourth Street and the red denotes the alternate route for traffic coming from the east of Fourth Street.

For children who walk to and/or from school, pedestrian traffic can continue to cross Fourth Street between Cedar Avenue and Lockett Road on either side of the intersection. There will be full protection between the crosswalk and the construction by jersey barriers for the duration of the project.

Parents and/or guardians should not drop their child(ren) off at the Fourth Street/Cedar Avenue/Lockett Road intersection under any circumstances. Please take the alternate driving routes advised above in order to encourage safety and avoid traffic congestion.

For additional questions or concerns pertaining to this project or the alternate routes, please contact your child(s) school site.
