Family Communications: November 8th, 2017
Good evening, PdH parents, families, and friend
This all call has five important announcements.
First, 5th Grade Visitation Festivities are here! On November 14th, Sinagua Middle School will be hosting the 5th Parent Information Meeting and Showcase event. The informational meeting will begin in the main auditorium starting at 5:30 with the Showcase occurring right after at 6 p.m. in the main gym. The PdH Language Institute, an aspiring IB program, the MIT-e program, and other programs will all be featured.
The MEMS showcase is scheduled for Wednesday, November 15th starting at 6:00pm. The Alpine Leadership Academy, the Pre-AP program, and other education options will also be exhibited.
Second, old man winter has arrived. Please ensure you child is fully prepared to go outside with the proper clothing, including snow boots and snow bibs on snowy days. We are hoping to create a winter clothes room in the near future to further help students with winter clothing need, and never hesitate to reach out if help is needed in securing the proper clothing for our mountain town’s winter.
Third, the annual Thanksgiving lunch is around the corner, which is scheduled for Nov. 22nd. To ensure a timely experience for families and reduce wait times, we have set grade-level times for parents to come and eat with their child. Kindergarten will eat at 10:30, 1st grade at 10:55, 2nd grade at 1120:, 3rd grade at 11:40, and 4th&5th at 12:05. These times will be posted on our website for convenient reference.
Fourth, picture re-take is scheduled for Nov. 29th. Contact our front office for more information.
Fifth, this week is Native American week at PdH, and I want to thank our Navajo Language Team for working incredibly hard to showcase and teach Navajo culture and Native American issues to all at PdH. Walking the halls and seeing all the cross-cultural learning is a special experience, and our teachers deserve incredible credit for making this experience an authentic, engaging, and important experience.
Last, there is no school on Friday, Nov. 10, in honor of Veteran’s Day. A huge “thank you” to all our veterans, both inside and outside the PdH family. We appreciate your service.
As always, thank you for choosing PdH, and we hope you have a great November and Thanksgiving holiday.
Family Communications: October 2, 2017
Good evening, Puente families, parents, and friends
This all call has three important announcements.
First, parent teacher conferences will be next week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Parent teacher conferences is a critically important time to see student progress, address future supports, and ensure student success. Thanks for making every effort to attend and to learn how to best support your child. Due to conferences, PdH will release at 12:00 on Monday, 12:00 on Tuesday, and 10:45 on Wednesday, and all three days will operate on the Friday bus schedule. Thursday and Friday will be our Fall Holiday, so there will no school.
Second, look for PdH’s quarterly newsletter on Peachjar on our website on October 9th. We will also have information from the Harvard Family Research Project for parents in terms of “best practices” for engaging in parent-teacher conferences. For communications such as these and in an attempt to reduce paperwork, we will move most communications to a virtual format, although we will have copies in the office for parents to read as necessary.
Third, PdH will be practicing their fire-drill on October 10 at 10:00.
And last, Starting October 15th and running thru February 28th, Puente de Hozho will be participating a fundraising competition with 9 other area schools sponsored by Flagstaff Mall. Be on the lookout from communications from our incredible PTO in the very near future on how to help raise funds for our school.
We look forward to seeing you at parent teacher conferences, and thank you for contributing to an amazing first quarter at PdH.
Family Communications: August 14th, 2017
Good evening, Puente parents, families, and friends
This message has two important safety updates.
First, PdH will not be sending children outside on Monday, August 21, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. due to the solar eclipse. We are doing this to respect traditional Navajo cultural beliefs and customs related to eclipses, as well as reduce the possibility of eye damage for children. If you would like to retrieve your child from school on Monday to see the eclipse as a family, we fully support you doing so. Also, tune in to National Public Radio, or NPR, between Saturday and Monday to hear two of our teachers on the Navajo Language Team discuss the significance of the eclipse to them personally and culturally.
Second, you will see us adding a fence to the south-side of the building at some point next week. A temporary fence will be in place before a permanent fence is installed this fall. The fence will maximize safety for children, as it will allow a barrier between children and vehicles at all times while allowing a safer and quieter path to our playground. This is just one of many upgrades to our building to maximize safety and beautify our campus over a three-year span.
I hope everyone has a great weekend, and as always, thank you for being a part of the PdH family.
Good afternoon, Puente parents, families, and friends
Family Communications: August 2nd, 2017
Our first day of school is August 10th, and we could not be more excited to begin the new academic year. You’ll notice some subtle improvements to our building, our website, and our approach as we begin 2017.
First off, our bell time remains the same, as we will begin school at 7:50 a.m. As a school that values a high academic bar, we ask everyone to focus on starting school on time every single day. Like last year, our release time is 2:20 p.m.
Second, we are changing our drop-off and pick-up procedures to ensure maximum safety for our students. If you are dropping off and picking up your child via a vehicle, parent drop off will be at the southern entrance of the building. Please pull up to the very bottom of the drop-off lane and look for the relevant sign. Parent-pickup will be in the same location, so please pull up as far possible to pick up your child for a quick and safer drop-off and pick-up experience. As always, please never leave your vehicle unattended in the vehicle lanes.
If you are getting to school after 8:00 a.m., please have your child go through the front office.
For parent pick up via walking, the new area to pick up your child is the double doors by the Forest Animal Mural. Please look for the appropriate sign for guidance or ask our office staff for assistance.
Visit our updated website for lunch times, which remains the same as last year, or important calendar days, like Open House on August 23. There are tabs for both "Family Communications" and calendar dates on our new site.
For our new Kinder families, welcome to Puente de Hozho!
Friday, August 4th from 8:30 to 4:30, we will have a loose open house for you to re-meet your child’s teachers, answer questions about the school day, and help soften the transition to Kindergarten. Stop by any time from 8:30 to 4:30 this Friday if you feel the need or have questions for the office or teachers.
On that note, kindergarten will release at 12:00 on the first-day of school, August the 10th, and at 12:00 on August 11th. We will release as a school on Friday, August 11th, at 12:00 as well, like years past.
Expect more information in the near future about some of the exciting changes at PdH and be sure to check our new website for current information. Again, here is to the beginning of an awesome and studious new year, and thank you for choosing Puente de Hozho.
