A Message From Principal Gutierrez
July 31, 2020
Welcome, Killip students, and parents to the 2020 – 2021 Virtual Academic School Year! First and foremost, we have missed you ALL! The effects that COVID – 19 has had on our society the past five months has disrupted all of our lives, in so many ways. We have all been impacted in so many different ways. Please know that we are here to support you and your family. We are providing Social and Emotional Learning classes 30 minutes a week for all students. We will be using the Sanford Harmony curriculum. We will also continue with our partnership with Everybody Matters, providing individual students with Social and Emotional support. I am proud to say that although faced with many challenges, the Killip staff is working diligently to provide all of our students with a high level of quality instruction. Please feel free to call the school with any questions that you might have.
All classroom teachers will be sharing with all families a daily and weekly schedule. All students will be required to log in to their classroom at 8:20 am. Attendance is mandatory and will be monitored by the state for funding purposes. Each student will receive daily instruction in reading and math with the integration of science and social studies. English Language Learners will receive instruction for one hour a day. Student Individual Learning Plans will be followed for qualifying students. All students will receive 30 minutes a week of instruction in art, music, PE, and SEL. Students will be released at 3:10 in a whole group closing circle. We do not expect students and teachers to be sitting in front of an iPad all day long. We will have a 45-minute common lunchtime from 11:30 to 12:15 pm. The teacher will provide Brain Breaks and independent work and activities that can transpire away from the iPad daily. Grab and Go Breakfast and lunches will be available to students. The times for pick-up have not been announced by the district.
We all realize and understand that the concept of "Virtual Learning" from home is new to all of us. We will persevere forward and monitor and adjust our practices and policies as we progress forward. There will undoubtedly be things that we did not think of, things that need to be changed, etc. Please be patient with us as we pioneer forward. Your input is always encouraged, so please feel free to call the school with any concerns, challenges, and supports that you might need.
We look forward to the start of the school year on August 17, 2020. Thank you for sharing your students with us.
