Welcome to Panther Athletics
Dear Student Athletes, Coaches, and Families
The Governing Board of the Flagstaff Unified School District met on Tuesday, September 22, 2020, and discussed the decision to suspend athletics last Friday, in accordance with guidelines from the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA), when current health data indicated the community spread of COVID-19, in the areas served by FUSD, fell within the Substantial (Red) category due to recent increases in positive cases.
Fall sports practices can resume today as they had been permitted during the previous week and competitions for minimal risk sports (cross-county, golf, and swimming) will be held as scheduled.
Competitions for larger team and contact sports (volleyball and football) will resume during the week of September 28 - October 2.
The Athletic Spectator Plan was also approved which allows a 10% spectator capacity to competitions at indoor gymnasiums, football stadiums, and the FHS swimming pool. More information about procedures for spectators will be communicated from the athletic directors and coaches.
Student-athletes, parents, coaches, and athletic directors should be commended for following the expected safety protocols during the phased return of athletics and those efforts will need to continue to sustain the Fall season. Thank you for your continued commitment to health and safety.
Per AIA guidelines, team activities will be paused for a minimum of eight (8) days in the event of an outbreak of positive COVID-19 cases of athletes, coaches, or athletic staff. Please refer to the AIA guidelines here for more information.
Thank you for partnering with FUSD to safely provide these athletic opportunities for our students.
The AIA has announced that for the upcoming 20-21 school year if a student had a physical done last year ON THE AIA form, they will only need to do the 15.7A portion of the packet. This does not include the doctor's form to eliminate the need for people to go to the doctor's office. Please be aware you do not need to do 15.7B IF your student had a physical this past school year on the AIA form. If your student is an incoming freshman or is coming to school for the first time in Arizona, they will need to get the entire physical done.
Thank you, Mr. Eric Freas
