National Attendance Awareness Month – Every Day Counts!
September 18, 2025
Dear FUSD Families,
September is National Attendance Awareness Month, and it’s a great time to think about the importance of getting to school every day. Did you know that missing even just two days this month can make it harder for students to stay on track for the year? How students start the school year often sets the tone for attendance and learning for the rest of the year.
Why September is Critical
Early Habits Matter: Students who attend school regularly in September are more likely to keep up throughout the year.
Strong Start, Strong Year: Missing a few early days can mean falling behind on reading, math, and other key skills.
Spotting Challenges Early: The first few weeks are the best time for teachers and families to notice if a student needs extra support.
How Families Can Help
Set Routines: Regular bedtimes and morning schedules help students arrive rested and ready to learn.
Prepare the Night Before: Lay out clothes, pack backpacks, and gather school supplies.
Be On Time: Getting to school on time helps students start the day confident and prepared.
Plan Around School: Try to schedule appointments or family trips outside school days.
Partner With the School: If your child or family is struggling with attendance barriers, reach out to teachers, counselors, or school staff. We’re here to help!
Why It Matters Beyond Your Child
Good attendance doesn’t just help your child – it helps their classmates and teachers too! Students who are in class regularly keep up with lessons and contribute to a positive classroom experience.
Thanks for helping your student get off to a great start. Every day counts!
