Supporting Our Families During the SNAP Benefit Suspension

Dear FUSD Families and Staff,

We understand that the ongoing federal government shutdown and the suspension of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits beginning tomorrow will cause hardship for many in our community. Over 347,000 Arizona children are supported through SNAP, and we recognize the stress and uncertainty that this change brings to families and staff across our district.

At Flagstaff Unified School District, we remain committed to supporting our students, families, and employees through these challenges. No student will ever be denied a school meal, regardless of account balance. Our schools and local partners are here to help ensure that every member of our community has access to the food and resources they need.

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications

If your household is affected by the suspension of SNAP benefits, we strongly encourage you to apply for Free and Reduced-Price Meals.

  • Apply online: FUSD Meal Application Portal

  • Or pick up a paper application at your child’s school or the FUSD Food Service Office (3285 E. Sparrow Avenue).

  • One application covers all children in your household.

  • Families will be notified within 10 business days of eligibility determination.

If your student attends one of our Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) schools—Killip Elementary, Kinsey Elementary, Leupp Elementary, Marshall Elementary, Mount Elden Middle School, Summit High School, or Thomas Elementary—no application is needed. All students at these schools automatically receive free breakfast and lunch.

Additional Meal Support in Schools

  • Coconino High School (CHS) and Mount Elden Middle School (MEMS) provide a Free Supper Program Monday–Thursday immediately after the bell. Students can stop by the cafeteria for a meal before heading to after-school activities.

  • Elementary students in FACTS programs receive a free snack each day.

  • St. Mary’s Food Bags are distributed weekly at several schools, including Cromer, Knoles, Thomas, Killip, CHS, and Sechrist. Bags are sent home on Fridays to help families over the weekend.
