Digital Photo/Design I CT127A/B

This class is a prerequisite for Digital Photography II, III, and Yearbook Publications. This class will introduce students to the mechanics and techniques of taking great photographs. Through weekly photo assignments, students will use a point and shoot camera to take photographs to improve their skills. Photographic fundamentals will include lighting, composition, posing subjects and camera functions. Students will learn the basic tools of photo editing using the software program Photoshop. Students can use their own camera or we will provide one. This class qualifies as a fine art credit.
Digital Photo/Design II CT31A/B

Advanced Digital Photography uses the skills of taking good photos that students learned in the basic photo class and expands on them. Students will use a Digital SLR camera with interchangeable lenses to learn the techniques and fundamentals of shutter speeds, aperture and depth of field. Students will also learn how to design posters, flyers, and programs using their photos. Through the creation of projects students will learn the elements of design, studio lighting, and presentation. This class qualifies as a fine art credit. Prerequisite: Recommendation of C or higher in Digital Photo I.

Publications is a course to introduce journalism and mass media. Students will study the processes and skills involved in media, including news writing, feature writing, interviewing, page layout, and photography. Students will design and produce school publications, including newspapers and yearbook. Students will gain knowledge and skills in writing, graphic design and photography in a hands-on learning environment. Students should be prepared to devote time outside of the class to the publication. Students must have photo or yearbook experience. Prerequisite: Recommendation of C or higher Digital Photo I or previous Yearbook experience.
