    Our Computer Science Path:

    • 2009: FIRST Robotics clubs started within FUSD secondary schools
    • 2013: FIRST LEGO League Robotics clubs started within FUSD elementary schools
    • 2015: Hour of Code encourage at all grade levels within FUSD schools
    • 2015-2017: Several secondary educators are trained by Code.org Professional Learning Program to prepare them to teach the Code.org computer Science Discoveries and/or Principles course curriculum
    • 2016: Develop buy0in with Administrators & Teachers
    • 2016: ISTE Presentation K-2 Students Can Code!
    • Present Day: Computer science pipeline is well established for students in grades K-12

     

    Providing a Diverse Collection of Extended Learning Opportunities for Students

    Hack the Class and FLG Coding Camp- Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce organized introduction to coding partnership with teachers in their classrooms and created camps for students to attend in the summer for free.

    CocoNuts LEGO Robotics mentor program- One summer program is geared to teach children in grades 4-8 the basics of NXT programming and is taught by student CocoNuts robotics team members. CocoNuts members also work with groups of students to create a LEGO robot to compete in a challenge at the end of the week. The other summer program they offer is a coach training for individuals wanting to become LEGO Robotics team coaches.

    CTE Classes- The Career and Technical education program has strong ties to business and industry, including class offerings such as Engineering Sciences. CTE allows students to earn industry certification, college credit and internship opportunities. Learn more about this program: http://www.caviat.org

    Scientists in the Classroom- A successful integration of STEM content and 21st Century Skills where a STEM partner- individual businesses, government agencies, and nonprofits, work with individual classrooms.     Flagstaff Community STEM Celebration- A annual celebration of all things STEM in Flagstaff since 2014. Showcases over 100 activities and demonstrations from more than 60 STEM related businesses, schools, clubs, teams, nonprofits and government agencies.
