Weather Related Schedule Changes
The Flagstaff Unified School District believes that it is important for families and team members to be prepared for weather-related schedule changes during the winter months. Our priority is ensuring that students, families, and team members are safe traveling to and from school so alternative schedules have been developed to respond to winter weather conditions. The decision to delay or cancel school is based on a number of factors that include weather forecasts, road conditions and closures, impact on instruction and scheduled activities, and timelines for mobilizing communication and changing bus routes.
FUSD will post notification of a delayed start or snow cancellation on the District and school websites, www.fusd1.org, and our social media platforms as soon as the decision is made. Phone calls, e-mails, and texts to FUSD parents and staff will begin at 6 a.m. Families wishing to receive text message notification will need to update their mobile phone number on ParentVUE.
School starts two hours after the regular start time at each building. Morning buses run two hours later than normal. Winter bus stop locations and times are subject to change in the Munds Park, Mountainaire, Kachina Village and Mt. Elden Lookout Road areas. Afternoon dismissal time and school bus runs will be the same as a regular day.
If a Delayed Start occurs on a scheduled Early Release Day, the early release is cancelled. Breakfast is not served when we are on this schedule. Morning FUSD Preschool classes, if held at your school, will be cancelled when a two-hour delay is in effect. We ask your cooperation in not bringing your students to school early on days the Delayed Start Schedule is in effect unless they are registered for FACTS.
In the event school is cancelled, snow make-up days have been designated on the 2019-2020 school calendar. Days will be made up in the following order: 5/6, 5/7, and 5/8. Both dates, 4/27 and 4/28, were already used when schools were forced to close as the result of a cyber attack.
The district’s FACTS program operates at each elementary school for all FUSD students (ages 5-12) registered for FACTS when there is a delayed start. On the Delayed Start Days, the FACTS Program opens at 7:30 a.m. and is open until the start of school. FACTS will be closed on all Snow Cancellation Days. For more information on FACTS, please visit their website www.fusd1.org/facts or call 527-6180.
Team FUSD understands changes to the school schedule require parents and community partners to make alternative arrangements. Please plan ahead now for childcare in the likely event school is delayed or cancelled during this winter season. If you have any questions, please contact your school office.
