FHS Student Places at FBLA Region 4 Conference
This past weekend, 13 Flagstaff High School (FHS) students traveled to Wickenburg, AZ for the The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Region 4 Conference. Over 45 schools and 800 members traveled to compete in a business related objective test and multiple performance based competitions including marketing, management decision making, sports and entertainment management, and more.
The Future Business Leaders of America is a Career Technical School Organization (CTSO) that is associated with the business management program offered at Flagstaff High School. Students that enroll in Business 1 or Business 2 have the opportunity to join this organization as an active member. Throughout the year, the FHS FBLA participates in different conferences such as FBLA on Ice where members learn about sports management and the career opportunities that lie in that field. Every conference we attend helps prepare these students for regional and state competitions.
Russel Woods, a FHS Business 1 student and first year FBLA member, placed 2nd this past weekend on the Economics Objective Test. Russel states, "I was confident in my test, and once my name was called I was so excited and to have my fellow members cheering me on felt great!” In December, Russel participated in the Online Objective Test Tournament, which allows FBLA members to gain practice on the objective test while being able to see where they could place in their region. During this tournament, Russel placed 10th out of 100 other FBLA members that participated. "I knew from seeing his results from the tournament that he had potential, the drive, and the skill to do well at regionals. As a first year advisor, I was excited to see one of my students place,” says Greg Contreras, FHS Business Teacher.
Members of FBLA will begin studying and preparing their performance based competitions for the state competition in April. They are hoping to come out of state with a win to move onto the national level!
