(Freshman Year) CIT Engineering I is an elective credit class that is taught in a block concurrently with CIT Physics. Students will learn design software such as CAD and Corel Draw, and use manufacturing tools such as the laser and 3D printers. Students will apply the concepts learned in Physics to design, build, test, and evaluate engineering projects. Past projects include cars, projectile machines, pasta bridges, planes, rockets and more. Prerequisites: Successful completion of the CIT application process. CIT Engineering I, II, and III is considered a three-year CTE block.

(Freshman Year) Students will study the principles of Newtonian Mechanics including kinematics, projectile motion, static and dynamic forces, circular motion, energy, momentum, waves, and electricity. This is a rigorous lab science course that is taught using inquiry – students will develop the physical models by completing and analyzing numerous lab experiments. Strong algebra skills are a must for CIT students. Prerequisites: Successful completion of the CIT application process.
(Sophomore Year) CIT Engineering II is an elective credit class that is taught in a block concurrently with CIT Chemistry Students will learn the engineering design process in greater detail while accepting the challenge of bigger and more complex projects. Topics include wind energy, animation, programming, and more. Past projects include windmills, water pumps, cardboard boats, Rube Goldberg machines, and more! Prerequisites: Completion of CIT Physics and CIT Engineering I with a C or better. CIT Engineering I, II, and III is considered a three-year CTE block.
(Sophomore Year) Students will study the intricacies of matter and energy, the atom, the Mole, bonding, the periodic table, and more. CIT Chemistry is an exciting lab course designed to allow students to experience chemistry in a hands-on environment. Students will learn lab safety and equipment and perform numerous experiments. Prerequisites: Completion of CIT Physics and CIT Engineering I with a C or better.
This year is broken up into two distinct semesters. The first semester will continue to be project based. Students will continue to improve their skills using the engineering process, measuring, drawing, designing, prototyping and testing. The projects will continue to delve deeper into science theory. This will be led by the students as they choose their area of study such as electromagnetism, heat, sound, hydraulics, etc. During the semester, the focus will be on testing, redesigning (iterations) and communication of results. Students will continue to have access to shop equipment and computer lab. The second semester is considered the capstone semester. During this semester, students will define their own problem and work towards a solution to this problem or goal. Students are required to use the engineering process and create a physical solution that attempts to solve the problem. Researching, brainstorming, drawing, constructing, testing, redesigning, and creating iterations are required throughout the process. The final project design successes and failures are then presented to the CIT student body at the end of the year. Students are required to submit a technical journal that details their learning process through the project. Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in CIT Freshman and Sophomore courses. CIT Engineering I, II, and III is considered a three-year CTE block.
